steps2work plays an important role in meeting employers’ human resource diversity needs by preparing people to become reliable and productive employees.

steps2work provides supports to employers in identifying potential employees and assists with the transition to ongoing stable employment by ensuring program participants have supportive counselling available to them.

Assistance is also provided to employers who need information or training on effective supervision or job coaching techniques including workplace accommodations when needed.

Are designed to assist participants to identify a career path and include:

  • Career planning by using computer-based evaluations to explore job interests and work-related skills and aptitudes.
  • Community or employer based work experiences to develop employability skills.

Community-Based Work Assessments (CBWA/E’s) are practical, unpaid assessments arranged with regular community-based employers and are structured for 18 shifts with a minimum of 15 hours per week. Our Employer partners provide a mutually benefiting opportunity for participants to explore and identify employment skills, interests and existing or potential barriers to paid employment in a realistic employment setting.

It is the goal of steps2work to build positive relationships in the business community.  As we take the time to understand the needs of businesses, it is hoped that businesses will find it beneficial to approach us with their employment needs.

To maintain these relationships, we not only offer ongoing support during work placements, but also post-employment support should you choose to employ an individual placed by steps2work.

Provides supports to participants in developing employability skills and in addressing any possible barriers to successful employment by:

  • Arranging for work experiences with potential employers.
  • Identifying a plan to make the work experience beneficial for both the employer and the potential employee.
  • Customizing the work experience based on the skills and work habits to be learned.
  • Providing work site support services during work experiences.

Available to participants of the steps2work program as well as to the employer after the job starts to ensure a successful employment transition.

Services may include:

  • Counselling supports to the employee on or off site.
  • Consultation with employers related to supports or accommodations needed by an employee to stabilize their employment.
  • Further training to improve the employability skills of the employee for maintaining employment or to advance in employment.

Employer Training

steps2work also provides Employer Training aimed at helping employers retain employees who may be experiencing a variety of mental health stressors.
Training is available on:

  • Stress Management
  • Building employee self-esteem
  • Supporting employees experiencing a mental health issue
  • Workplace accommodations

Frequently Asked Questions

All clients funded for services by steps2work are covered by our Workers Compensation agreement with the Province of Manitoba Department of Family Services: Regulation #545/88 under Section 7 of the Workers Compensation Act.

steps2work, as well as it’s partnering organizations, have access to funding requests, that if approved could cover 100% of any accessibility costs that may need to be invested.

Studies suggest that 1 in 5 Canadians will have a mental disability at some point in their lives. Given the worker populations in most companies/organizations, it’s not unrealistic to say that several co-workers of yours are either currently dealing with mental disability at any given moment. Partnering  with steps2work means that you know that the person you are about to take on has sought out supports, is currently receiving them, and has been pre-screened by a team of professionals and deemed employment ready.
